2005汉诺威iF产品设计奖

本届竞赛对参赛类别进行了一些结构调整,还增加了“前沿研究”类别,学生们仍然可以免费参加“概念”类别。

生产厂商及设计师均可参加。参评产品必须是近三年批量生产并投放市场或者计划在今年内投产。

请直接通过www.ifdesign.de在线报名. Along with your complete mailing address, we also require your e-mail address so we can regularly keep you informed on the progress of the competition, including results and confirmations.

In the "Product information" field on the online registration form, we require a brief description of your product and its functions, as well as any innovative design aspects. This brief information is extremely important for the screening process.

After we have received your registration...
We will confirm the product number for your competition entry by e-mail.
You will receive an invoice for the registration fee.

初选
On the basis of the product information supplied in your online registration plus your photos (a maximum of three per product), the Jury chairs will select the products deserving closer consideration. You will be informed by e-mail of the results of the screening process.

The Jury's screening selections are legally valid and there is no legal recourse. Unfortunately, owing to the large number of entries, we are unable to provide individual justification for the Jury's decisions.

We will inform you of the results of the screening process sometime in...
September, if you register by August 15.
October, if you register by September 30.

Invitations to compete
Following the screening process, the surviving contestants will be invited to submit their products for judging by the Jury by the end of October 2004 by mail, courier or forwarder. Simultaneously we also require text and photos to accompany your product for the judging procedure.

The invitation will contain all the necessary details, such as the shipping address, instructions on how to label the product and packaging with the product number, dates for independent setup or assembly and a specification of the kind of text and photos to be submitted.

The product displays will be set up by experienced decorators. We recommend doing your own independent setup if your product requires elaborate assembly or installation, is large or cumbersome, or has any complicated or sensitive components. Entrants must provide all their own materials and dispose of them again afterwards. Please note that setting up your own display automatically obligates you to dismantle it after the judging procedure as well.

We require functional original products, including the appropriate batteries or lighting, as well as a two-meter long power supply cord.

Large items should be presented as scale models or in the form of large informative photos showing various details, together with the appropriate documentation.

Please ensure that there are no delivery charges payable by us, and that transport packaging is reusable. The registrant bears the charges for return-shipping the entry.

If your product passes the screening process, we will mail you an invitation to compete, with information on the following:

Shipping your competition entry or setting up your own product display.
Submitting photos and text describing your product in English and German. Whatever text you submit is used by the Jury during the judging procedure. If you are successful in winning an iF product design award, the text and photos will be published in the iF Yearbook.

We will mail you an invoice covering the Jury assessment overhead fee by the beginning November 2004

The costs per invited product are as follows:
EUR 185 plus VAT for products shipped to us
EUR 150 plus VAT for products assembled or set up independently

评审
Year after year we are delighted at being able to attract international judges of the highest caliber, who are extremely dedicated, critical and passionate in their discussions and their overall approach to the task of judging our events. The non-public judging session for the iF design award 2005 will take place from 16 to 18 November 2004. The results of this session will determine which of the companies and designers, in the eyes of the judges, have met the iF criteria of design excellence. By mid-December 2004 you will receive written notification from us advising you of whether you will be presented with the iF seal of design excellence - the iF product design award 2005. Whether your product is additionally the recipient of a Gold or Silver award will not be announced until the awards ceremony in March 2005.

No member of the judging panel can take part in the adjudication process for more than two years in a row. If one of the judges has any direct involvement with one of the entries, he or she has no vote. The decision of the panel here - as in the screening round - is final, and no correspondence will be entered into.

We will inform you of the results of the judging process by mid-December, including information on:
Return shipment of your unsuccessful products or independent dismantling of product displays.
Preparing your successful product for the iF Design Exhibition.
If you are one of the prizewinners, you can begin communicating your receipt of an iF product design award in your press publicity and marketing campaigns.
Advertising materials for this purpose are available at www.ifdesign.de starting in January 2005.

positioned for maximum exposure

The iF Design Exhibition, showcasing the latest award winners every year, is one of the most compelling reasons to take part in the iF design award. It is particularly valuable for its commercially favorable location - at the world's largest exhibition facility in Hannover, Germany. Every year, the iF Design Exhibition in the iF Design Center attracts some 300,000 professional visitors from key target groups who are there to check out the latest design trends. This makes the iF Design Exhibition one of the most widely influential trend-setting design events in the world.
Participation in the iF Design Exhibition is mandatory for all prize-winning products in all categories.

Graduated exhibition fees

The exhibition fees for prize-winners in categories 01 to 11 are graduated according to product size and the amount of space required:

iF年鉴

The iF Yearbook is a comprehensive and attractive documentary work which has become an integral part of the competition. As the winner of an iF design award, you too have the opportunity to present your design credentials - with an illustration and full description of the winning product in English and German - in the iF Yearbook. This excellent publication has become a universally consulted reference work for anyone interested in design, making it a first-class marketing vehicle for your products. You will be sent a sample copy as soon as the yearbook is completed; the official publication date is day if the awards ceremony.

iF design award prizewinners must pay for compulsory inclusion of their entry in the iF Yearbook, at a cost of EUR 825 plus VAT.
Prizewinners in the Concepts discipline are included free of charge.

Being one of the best-known design competitions, we have to have the appropriate setting for our awards ceremony: CeBIT 2005, the world's biggest computer show. Although you will be advised in writing by December 2004 on whether you were successful in winning an iF product design award, we will not publicly announce the winners of iF Gold Awards or iF Silver Awards until our iF awards ceremony on March 10, 2005. This is the highlight of the iF product design award competition, with an invited audience from business, government and the media. You will receive your invitation to the iF award ceremony in February 2005.

Communication for prizewinners

If your product has succeeded in winning a coveted international design prize - our iF product design award - you will definitely want to get the word out to your customers and partners. Image-promoting advertising materials are available to all prizewinners:

The following advertising materials will be available as of December 2004:
· iF winner logo (downlaod)
· iF certificates (Plexiglas)
· iF certificates (signed, on paper)
· iF product stand-up displays
· iF stickers
· Ads in the iF Yearbook 2005

Legal framework
iF will not be held liable for any damage or disadvantages, unless these can be shown to have been caused by iF and its employees through deliberate intent or gross negligence. The registrant or exhibitor must warn iF of any special risk to legal property that might arise through the exhibition of his product(s). The registrant or exhibitor will be liable for any damages that could not be averted due to a lack of notification, to the extent that he was aware of such danger, or to the extent that his lack of awareness constituted a case of gross negligence. All claims against iF must be made in writing. They will lapse six months after notification of elimination in the screening round, or after the end of the exhibition at the exhibition location. The place of jurisdiction and place of fulfillment for payment obligations is Hannover. German law and the German text enjoy exclusive validity.

Insurance
Please ensure that you have adequate insurance coverage for your products, particularly as regards the risk of theft, fire, breakage and damage. iF will not be held liable unless its employees can be shown to have acted with deliberate intent or gross negligence.

Patent and protective rights
The submitted products may not infringe on the protective rights of other parties. iF accepts no liability.


二、2005汉诺威iF产品设计奖·前沿研究

Advanced studies are a new category in the iF product design award. Whereas "concepts" represents a separate category for students, the category of "advanced studies" is the professional equivalent for companies and design studios.

An essential element of studies geared more towards inspiration than implementation is the development of visions that are independent from a short-term marketing or sales perspective. Being open to what is feasible - or unfeasible - promotes internal discussion and offers the public a glimpse of the future.

The best-known example of this involves concept cars, which are gaped at, admired and sometimes even derided, but which always stimulate some new ideas. Which is exactly what we want to do.

You can submit advanced studies in all categories of the iF product design award 2005. The Jury can select a maximum of ten top entries.

The registration fee is EUR 130 per item plus VAT.

Mail you information on entering your advanced study by October 30, 2004.
Mail you an invoice for the registration fee.

There is no screening process for advanced studies category and no Jury assessment overhead fee.
We will inform you of the results of the judging process by mid-December, including information on:

Return shipment of your unsuccessful entry.
Preparing your successful entry for the iF Design Exhibition.

A maximum of ten awards will be bestowed in this category.
Prizewinners in this category will not receive an iF sculpture and are not eligible for Gold or Silver awards.
The costs per award in the category of advanced studies are as follows:

An exhibition fee of EUR 200 plus VAT.
A charge for being listed in the iF Yearbook of EUR 825 plus VAT.

Winners of the advanced studies category will have a graphic presentation in the iF Design Exhibition.

概念

For the fourth time, design students are invited to enter the free "concepts" competition. This special award for talented new designers is not only a good opportunity to gauge your own skills, pit your talents against other budding designers and gain some initial experience of adjudication criteria. It also represents a unique prospect for gaining public exposure and letting prospective employers find out about you.

In 2005 the British innovations and technology enterprise Dyson is once again sponsoring the iF product design award "concepts" category for students. For the first time, the concepts award purse of EUR 15,000 is being supplemented by an additional EUR 5,000 for the "Dyson Innovation Award," reserved for the most innovative concept.

Out of all the entries submitted, the Jury may submit a maximum of 20 winners, who will receive a share of the total purse in different amounts, to be fixed by the jury.

Legal framework
concepts
Registration of protective rights will be a matter for participants, and claims under patent and protective law will be governed by the statutory provisions. At the time of submission, rights for possible implementation must not have been transferred to any third party. Authorship and rights of use must be in the hands of the participant. Entrants declare their agreement to publication in connection with the competition. By participating in the competition, all participants acknowledge the conditions of participation.

The same applies to any allied universities and their professors. By participating in the competition, the participant also confirms that the entry he/she has submitted represents his/her own authorship.
