The concept of pleasure is broad. In fitness experiences today, pleasure is pushing your physical limit, steaming out the stress, makes you beat yourself or your opponent. When it comes to wellness, pleasure is reaching a mental, physical and psychological balance, which gives energy, strength and self-confidence in everyday life.
Wellness is the core of Technogym¡¯s vision and mission: the Wellness Company.
DPPI05 and Technogym challenge you to add new dimensions of pleasure in physical exercise to achieve your vision on wellness. Starting from the state of the art of cardiovascular and strength fitness machines, design a new vision of the equipment and the fitness environment through innovative shape and interaction. After the high tech era in which complicated interfaces and robotlike fitness machines ruled the world of fitness, we are getting closer to a new sensibility. Leaving the user in control and adding a human touch to the equipment is the new philosophy that we want you to explore, while creating pleasurable points of contacts between user and equipment.
This is a call for non-conventional designers who can improve the fitness and wellness experience by pushing it beyond the limit of a pure physical activity.
A jury composed of prominent representatives of industry, design research and philosophy will judge your work. For every project the following issues will be taken into account:
¡¤ The coherence with Technogym¡¯s mission statement (¡äto improve health, fitness and quality of life through physical exercise¡ä)
¡¤ The strength of the concept supporting the design. How is it substantiated? What is the new message to the world of product design?
Of course the topic is complex, highly subjective and hard to evaluate. Design always is. This is why we give the opportunity to comment on and discuss the submitted proposals. The jury will select the best 10 submissions and their designers will be invited to attend the conference and to present their work to all conference attendees. A plenary discussion led by the jury will follow. The jury will select and announce the three winners after the discussion.
